Well, as many of our readers may have guessed, there is no Commodore 64,  no slide rule, and no complex algorithm that we use to identify the 10 most booked corporate and association speakers. The list is developed over the course of the year, as a result of our interactions with thousands of meeting planners, executives, and speakers. While there is no real “science” behind our selections, there is one common denominator: all of these speakers give at least 100 commercial presentations during the course of the year. On the intangible side, they tend to be asked for by name, are rarely available when we check their speaking schedules, and their speaking fees are continuously on the rise.

A couple of notes before we begin:

  • These are all popular world-class speakers, but it does not mean that they are the right fit for every meeting or organization. Consult with a Speaker Bureau you trust before scheduling one of these speakers to make sure they can achieve your goals and desired outcomes
  • Charlie Cook is exclusive with Leading Authorities International.  They are your best source to schedule Mr. Cook.
  • The reader can gather more detailed background, contact, and booking information for these speakers by clicking on the links provided.
It gives us great pleasure to present our followers with the 2016 List of the 10 Most Booked Corporate and Association Speakers:

Conclusion:

Of course, it is impossible to identify the 10 most booked speakers on the speaking circuit, but you would have a hard time arguing with any one of the aforementioned speakers. The real trick is to target who will be on this list next year before it happens.

One speaker we feel to be a strong candidate is visionary corporate social entrepreneur Derreck Kayongo. In addition to being a compelling, engaging, and high-impact speaker, he will give the closing keynote session at the 2016 ASAE Annual Meeting this August in Salt Lake City. If past performance of ASAE speakers is an indicator of future corporate and association speaking demand, look for Derreck Kayongo to make this prestigious list next year.

Earlier this year we posted an article highlighting the impact of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Annual Meeting on the professional speaking and speaker bureau industry. To recap, this conference is the crown jewel of the association meeting industry. Being selected to speak at this particular event provides speakers with a unique showcase opportunity in front of 5,000 key association leaders. A successful performance on the ASAE stage will often lead to hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking income; two great examples from this year’s meeting in Detroit are Josh Linkner and Sheryl Connelly who have become two of the most in-demand speakers on the association circuit, with the ASAE Annual Meeting playing a key role in this success.

This week, a similar key bellwether event will take place for meeting leaders in the insurance industry as The Atlantis Resort plays host to the November 15-18, 2015 Annual Meeting of the Financial and Insurance Conference Planners. Influential meeting executives from the nation’s leading insurance companies will converge at this exclusive resort to cover topics ranging from creating an interactive meeting environment to strategic thinking for today’s leaders.

As it is with ASAE, the competition amongst speaker bureaus to place their speakers in front of these key leaders in the financial services industry is robust. It will come as no surprise to followers of this blog that Sally Hogshead (10 Most Booked Corporate/Association Speakers) was selected by FICP as the General Session speaker on Tuesday, November 17, to cover the topic of “The Fascination Advantage: Unlocking Your Personality’s Natural, Hardwired Advantages”. Along with being the CEO and Founder of How to Fascinate, Sally is also a notable Hall of Fame speaker and international author. Since publishing her first book, Radical Careering: 100 Truths to Jumpstart Your Job, Your Career and Your Life, she has conducted research and measured more than 200,000 people to identify a scientific approach to personal branding and travels the country explaining those teachings and how attendees can appropriate them into their everyday lives.

The already high demand for Sally’s speaking talents will surely increase after her General Session speech this week. Contact your IASB-member speaker bureau or reach Sally directly at her site, www.howtofascinate.com to learn how her fascination system can transform your organization and its next meeting.

Bonus: The Speaker Experts will send a copy of “The Fascination Advantage” to the first blog or Twitter follower who can tell us what a Hogshead is.

Internationally-recognized innovator Josh Linkner and futurist Sheryl Connelly were among the educational highlights at the August 8-15, 2015 American Society of Association Executives Annual Meeting in Detroit.

Linkner captivated the Opening General Session attendees on Sunday, August 9, as he covered the myriad ways associations must harness fresh approaches to all aspects of their work in order to thrive and remain competitive in his aptly-named keynote “Harnessing Innovation: Turning Raw Ideas into Powerful Results”:

Sheryl Connelly, currently the lead of the Global Consumer Trends and Futuring team for a major player in the automotive industry, was the highlight of the Game Changer sessions covering “How to Think Like a Futurist” on Monday, August 10:

Along with Josh Linkner and Sheryl Connelly, here are a few other guest speaker highlights from ASAE’s Annual Meeting sessions:

ASAE represents over 21,000 association executives and industry partners who represent more than 9,300 organizations. At each Annual Meeting, over 5,000 members from around the country take advantage of the countless networking opportunities and participate in 120+ education sessions. Both Sheryl Connelly and Josh Linkner are active on the corporate and association speaking circuit and can be scheduled by contacting your preferred IASB-member speaker bureau.

The Speaker Experts are excited to see next year’s picks from ASAE for the August 13-16, 2016 Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, UT.

This week the Washington DC area will play host to one of the year’s most important events to the speaking industry: the National Speakers Association Annual Meeting, Influence 2015. NSA is a professional speaker organization that supports the pursuit of the commercial public speaking industry. The organization is relevant to our conversation as many of the speakers highlighted on this site jump-started their careers with the help and guidance of the NSA. Our posting last week covered the 10 most booked corporate and association speakers. While not everyone agreed with our selections, it is tough to argue that the 10 speakers listed are not among the most popular on the speaking circuit. Of course it is easy to look back at a 12 month period and analyze what happened but the real challenge is to look down the road and predict what will happen over the course of the next 12 months. The great hockey player Wayne Gretzky calls this “….skating to where the puck is going to be…”

Listed below are 10 speakers you should have your eye on over the next 12 months. These speakers are already some of the most popular on the circuit – based on market inertia, their work with the NSA and other industry happenings, we feel they are all candidates to make the list of the 10 most booked next year:

corcoran

henderson

knight

payton

stratten

waldo

williams

cook

Our final speaker to look out for over the next 12 months is a symbolic selection that just will not look good on a baseball card: Mt. Everest.

everest-poster

While speakers who use the mountain as a metaphor for success in business and life have always been popular on the professional speaking circuit, we feel the interest in Everest-related speakers will peak with the September 25th release of “Everest”. The film stars Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal, Robin Wright, and Josh Brolin, and is based on Jon Krakauer’s best selling book Into Thin Air. Look for speakers who share their experience on Everest to be in high demand over the next year.

Closing Thoughts:
No one goes from being a fresh face on the circuit to speaking at 100 meetings during the course of a year – the speakers listed above are already among the most popular and on the circuit. The Speaker Experts feel that based on the previously listed criteria, they are the names to watch out for on next year’s 10 most booked speakers list.

Every year over 5,000 leaders from the association community gather at the crown jewel of association educational events – The American Society of Association Executives Annual Meeting. This year the ASAE Annual Meeting and Exposition will take place from August 8-11 in Detroit, MI. As you can imagine the competition among speaker bureaus and speaker management firms to place their speakers in front of this vibrant and energetic leadership group is fierce. ASAE can have their pick of just about any speaker on the circuit – to be selected as a General Session or Game Changer speaker is a great honor that typically leads to recognition and, frankly, an uptick in business within the association community.

A “spin-off” speech for an ASAE-member association and meeting attendee often leads to multiple engagements from corporate groups further down the line. There really is no way to determine the link between the actuarial value of being selected to speak at an ASAE meeting and then delivering a successful speech, but for many speakers it can result in a seven-figure speaking income. The majority of the speakers on our list of the “10 Most Booked Speakers” have addressed previous ASAE meetings throughout the years.

The Speaker Experts do a great deal of work with two Detroit natives who have been selected to speak at the 2015 ASAE Annual Meeting and Exposition:

General Session : Josh Linkner

Tech Entrepreneur and Bestselling Author of “The Road to Reinvention” and “Disciplined Dreaming”

Game Changer : Sheryl Connelly

Manager, Global Consumer Trends and Futuring, Ford Motor Company

The Speaker Experts suggest that you reach out to your speaker bureau of choice prior to the ASAE meeting to find out more about these thought leaders’ availability and background. Followers of this blog know we are not fans of the “hold” process but in this case it might make sense to get a date “on hold” prior to the meeting as we believe the fees and demand for these speakers will be going up.
